MCS Expands Offshore Wind Fleet with Additional SWATH Crew Transfer Vessel Ordered from Työvene

The order reflects the growing demand for high-performance service vessels capable of supporting offshore wind operations in increasingly challenging environments. As offshore wind farms move further from shore and operators seek to maximize turbine availability, vessel performance has become a critical factor in operational efficiency.

Unlike conventional crew transfer vessels, SWATH (Small Waterplane Area Twin Hull) vessels offer exceptional seakeeping characteristics through a hull design that significantly reduces pitch, roll and vertical accelerations. The result is a more stable platform for technicians, safer personnel transfers, and improved operational capability in adverse sea conditions.

For offshore wind operators, these advantages translate directly into increased weather windows, more productive working days offshore and reduced downtime caused by vessel limitations. Improved onboard comfort also reduces crew fatigue and enhances technician readiness upon arrival at the wind farm.

The vessel will be optimized for offshore wind support operations, including technician transfers, maintenance campaigns, inspection activities and the transport of equipment and spare parts. Construction will take place at Työvene’s shipyard facilities in Finland.
